It is often the first choice of expeditions looking to summit higher mountains as it is one of the highest peaks to climb and trek for. Hence, many adrenaline seekers also describe this peak as a “practice peak” since they climb this peak before trying on any more extreme activities. Nevertheless, the summit of Mera Peak is beyond mere practice. It also involves indulging your desire for something more exhilarating and adventurous all while immersing yourself in the captivating authentic Sherpa culture of the region.
To add more, Mera Peak climbing is a non-technical climb. Our climbing experts at Hike Holiday Treks will assist you in accomplishing this adventure. It is a challenging journey but with proper guidance and support, you will successfully summit the Mera Peak.
The expedition begins from Lukla and follows less trodden paths of the Everest region. We traverse through the beautiful and quaint towns of Ningsow, Chhatra Khola, Kothe, Thaknak, and Khare. Besides charming parishes, you will navigate dense forests and high alpine meadows. The path unveils breathtaking vistas of Everest, Lhotse, Makalu, and Cho Oyu, each step bringing you closer to the heart of this wilderness.
Similarly, the journey continues through shifting topography- including rocky ridges, snow-covered slopes, and vast glaciers while you attempt Mera Peak. The challenges intensify as you cover more and more elevation and air becomes thin. The world below disappears as you get closer to the top, and you are met with the breathtaking Himalayas stretching in all directions.
At the top, feel the crispy air, admire the golden hues of sunrise, and experience the exhilaration of standing atop Mera Peak. Surrounded by unfathomably beautiful vistas, Mera Peak Climbing is not just an adventure, it is a life-changing experience that will leave a lasting mark on your soul.

Our representative will meet you at the airport to bring you to your designated accommodation. There is no other schedule planned for the rest of the day so you may comfortably anticipate the upcoming journey.
This day is reserved for preparation and checking trekking and climbing gear. We will filter out the gears that are unnecessary to bring on the trek so that we can proceed with the journey with essentials.
Today, we are flying to Lukla. Due to congestion at Tribhuvan International Airport, we will take a flight to Lukla from Manthali Airport in Ramechhap. We will wake early in the morning around 2 AM and hop on the waiting vehicle to drive to Ramechhap. We will get on the earliest flight available and enjoy a scenic flight to Lukla. After arrival at Lukla, we will resume our journey and officially begin our trek to Paiya. We navigate verdant rhododendron and juniper wood and a few towns until we reach beautiful Paiya, where will be resting for the night.
Your guide will pick you up from your hotel in Kathmandu and accompany you to the airport for the Lukla flight. During the flight, you’ll enjoy stunning views of valleys and peaks as you soar through the blue sky.
Upon arriving at Lukla Airport, which is known for its thrilling runway, you’ll begin your trek toward Paiya. The trail leads you through Juniper and Rhododendron forests to Surke, where you’ll continue your journey to Pakhapani for lunch. As you continue, you’ll cross Chutok La pass and pass by traditional villages before reaching Paiya, a small settlement.
We wake up with breathtaking sights of Khatang, Tang Ragi Tu, Kongde Ri, and other surrounding mountains. Admiring the view, we descend to a wooden bridge through a rhododendron forest. We cross Kari La pass, which is one of the highlights and challenging parts of today. The slippery path calls for extra carefulness. We resume the journey hiking steep ascends and descends until we reach Panggom.
Depart from Panggom, we head towards Ningsow. Today, we will another pass called Panggom La Pass and continue the journey by ascending on a steady path and following our route to the north. Initially, we traverse Peseng Kharka Khola, and subsequently, after a period of walking, we arrive at Peeng Kharka Danda. Before reaching the village of Ningsow, we also cross Ningsow Khola.
Starting from Ningsow, our journey today starts with an ascend and descend, followed by another ascent to Ramailo Danda. From this vantage point, we are greeted with majestic vistas of Mera Peak and Salpa. As we continue, we take the trail through Manaslu Barun National Park, one of the significant national parks in the country. The park houses several flora and fauna including snow leopard, Himalayan Tahr, and more. Following the trail, we reach Chhatra Khola, a stream important to villagers. Our journey for today ends here.
Today, we are heading north and joining the leading trail to Mera Peak. Following a trail along Majang Khola, we then take the path along the Hinku River. The journey progressively continues towards Tashing Ongma and then to Sanu Khola before we reach the picturesque village of Kothe.
Leaving Khothe, we walk along the Hinku river and reach Gondishung. Here we will get to meet herders grazing their tribes of goats or flocks of sheep. Resuming the trek, we walk Gondishung, and take the trail of ancient Lungsumgba Gompa. If you look at the stones of the gompa, you can find an incription of Mera pera and its climbing route. After a short observation, we continue the trek and walk towards Thaknak, which is our final destination for the day.
We depart Thaknak and head for Khare. Initially, we will be walking alongside Dig Glacier and then Dig Kharka which is an alpine pastureland. From here, you can watch the panoramic sights of the surrounding Himalayas. We descend from Dig Kharka and walk along moraines, and glaciers before a steeper ascent brings you to Khare. Enjoy the more captivating scenery from Khare as we have reached our destination for the day.
This day is set for acclimatization and pre-climbing training. We have covered incredible heights so before covering more elevation, we let our body accommodate to increasing elevation. In the meantime, we will also have some prior climbing training from our climbing instructor. The instructor will provide information on techniques necessary for peak climbing and familiarize with the climbing gears such as crampons, ice axes, harnesses, ropes techniques, climbing boots, and more.
Today we officially begin our climbing expedition. We walk along a steep rocky trail to arrive at the Mera Peak Base Camp. We will cross Mera La pass and further navigate the rugged path to the high camp. We will set the camp at the high camp and enjoy the stunning sights of Everest, Makalu, Lhotse, and more from here.
We start the day very early in the morning. We will have breakfast and then put on our climbing gear and start the climb. The climb will be challenging to stay motivated and strong. The view from the summit will be worth all the challenges. From the top, admire the alluring and massive sights of giants such as Everest, Lhotse, Makalu, Cho Oyu, Nuptse, Kanchenjunga, and many more. After appreciating the spectacular vistas, we descend the peak and continue our journey to Khare.
Weather up in the mountains are uncertain. So to tame the uncertainty of the weather, this day is reserved as a contingency day. If we were unable to ascend the summit initially, we shall attempt on this day. If all goes smoothly as planned, this day is not required and we shall continue the journey.
We trek down to Kother enjoying the full delights of the trail. We shall appreciate giant mountain views on our way down.
We depart from Thuli Kharka, leaving the delightful ambiance of Kothe and their people. Descends sometimes can be challenging so stay careful of the steps.
We leave Thuli Kharka for Lukla. On the way, we pass one final pass called Zatrawala Pass. The path is slippery so careful approach is crucial.
We are bidding farewell to the Himalayan town and its landscape and flying back to the hustle and bustle of Kathmandu.
In the evening you will join the farewell dinner hosted by Hike Holiday Treks.
It is a free day so you may spend the day exploring the shops and restaurants around Kathmandu.
One of our representatives will meet you approximately 3 hours before your flight time at the airport. With hope to meet you again in the future for another Himalayan adventure, we bid farewell and wish for a safe journey ahead!
