Looking for an adventure of a lifetime? Then we present you with, an incredibly adventurous Island Peak Climbing with Everest Base Camp Trek.
Island Peak, also known as Imje Tse is one of the popular trekking peaks in Nepal. Nestled amidst the Himalayas, Island Peak stands at the grand height of 6189 m and offers extraordinary mountain sights for admirers. This journey offers not only an exhilarating peak-climbing adventure but also provides a wonderful opportunity to discover legendary landscapes, including monasteries, remote meadows, and wildlife habitats. Additionally, it’s a chance to immerse oneself in the vibrant culture of the Sherpas, known for their bravery and colorful traditions.
Similar to other journeys in the Everest region, this adventure also starts from the picturesque Lukla. From Lukla, the path ascends the Dudh Koshi canyon, winding through terraced fields, quaint villages, and traditional Sherpa communities. Along the way, Buddhist prayer flags flutter in the breeze, while inscriptions adorn stone walls and boulders line the trail. Besides cultural influence, visitors also get to explore the mountain wilderness of Sagarmatha National Park. As the trek continues, the rugged brown-green slopes of Everest change from dense green forests to arid landscapes.
Exploring these wonders, you take the rugged route to the lap of the world’s highest peak- Everest Base Camp. From here, you get the majestic vistas of the world’s tallest mountains such as Cho Oyu, Lhotse, Nupste, and many more. Likewise, the hike to Kala Pathhar is another wonderful addition to this already incredible journey. Atop Kala Pathhar, you get the most exceptional sight of Mt. Everest than anywhere else.
The journey gets even more interesting as you climb the summit of Island Peak. Standing atop, get awed by the vast expanse of rugged peaks and valleys while embracing the beautiful feeling of being in nature’s grandeur. The crispy and thin air will fasten your breath but the massive amalgamation of snow-clad- Mt. Everest, Lhotse, Nuptse, and Makalu will calm your senses.
So, get thrilled and relaxed at the same time by opting for the ultimate lifetime adventure. This is a doable journey for anyone fit, healthy, and motivated to scale amazing Island Peak. This journey offers a moment of triumph for achieving something so challenging at the same time so rewarding.
One of our office representatives will meet you at the TIA to bring you to your designated hotel. At the hotel, we will briefly go over our travel plans. After that, there is no planned schedule so you may spend the rest of the day as per your choice.
This day is reserved for preparation and checking trekking and climbing gear. We will filter out the gears that are unnecessary to bring on the trek so that we can proceed with the journey with essentials.
Today, we are flying to Lukla. Due to congestion at Tribhuvan International Airport, we will take a flight to Lukla from Manthali Airport in Ramechhap. We will wake early in the morning around 2 AM and hop on the waiting vehicle to drive to Ramechhap. We will get on the earliest flight available and enjoy a scenic flight to Lukla. After arrival at Lukla, we will resume our journey and officially begin our trek to Phakding.
We depart lovely Phakding and follow the trail along the Dudh Koshi River. Meandering through lush and dense forests of rhododendron, pine, and juniper trees, you will also find yourself walking through bamboo grooves and diverse flora and fauna. We bypass locals working in the field, allowing us a glimpse into their rural lifestyle. We eventually reach the vibrant town of Namche nestled in the lap of colossal Himalayan wonders.
We have set this day as an acclimatization day. To get well adapted to the changing elevation, we spent this day exploring the highlights around Namche Bazaar. First, we walk to Syanboche airport and then climb to the world’s highest hotel- Everest View Hotel at 3700 meters above sea level. We enjoy a delicious breakfast with a breathtaking Everest massif in the backdrop. After admiring the beautiful Himalayan scenery, we descend to the town and visit the Sherpa Culture Museum and Everest Photo Gallery to learn more about the region’s history, its people, and its rich culture.
We leave beautiful Namche and head for Tengboche- another significant town in Everest Valley. The same and simple path takes us to see Mount Everest. We go down into the Dudh Koshi Valley at a place called Pungki Thanka, then go up the right side of the valley to Tengboche Monastery, which is at 3860 meters. This monastery is very important to the people who live here. It will be a long journey but the beautiful views of Mount Amadablam and, if the weather is good, Mount Everest and the other mountains around it, make it worth it.
Today, we hike towards Dingboche, a pasture land for grazing sheep, goats, and yaks. We reach Dingboche by making a descent through a lovely forest and crossing the Imja Khola. We walk past Pangboche and reach our final destination. The sights of the mountains will get more prominent as we approach our destination.
We have set this day as another acclimatization day. As we have already scaled quite an elevation, it is important to adjust to the altitude. On this day, we can go for an optional hike to Nagerjun Hill for more awe-inspiring scenery. The hill is also known as Chhukung Ri as it lies in Chhukung Valley.
Heading towards Lobuche, we gradually descend towards Dughla and then continue along the moraine of Khumbu glacier to Lobuche. On the way, we enjoy even more spectacular sights of Nuptse, Everest, and other surrounding peaks.
Today, we have a long day ahead. We start the day with a hike to Everest Base Camp via Gorakshep. From Base Camp, we admire amazing vistas of the neighboring peaks. The journey is tough but the incredible views make it all worth it. After gushing over the magnificent scenery, we hike down to Gorakshep.
Early in the morning, we get up to hike Kalapatthar to witness the amazing sunrise over the Everest massif. Kalapatthar is the best vantage point to watch the best view of Everest along with other surrounding giants. From this vantage point, the entire south face of Everest is more prominent, and a 360-degree view of the Himalayas makes it worth waking up early in the morning. After that, we descend to Gorakshep, have a hearty breakfast, and then resume the journey to Dingboche.
With backpacks packed, we start our hike by crossing the beautiful Imja Khola valley. Then we climb into the rugged trail with the majestic backdrop of amazing Mt. Lhotse and Ama Dablam. Following a rocky path, we reach our destination- beautiful Chhukung village.
From Chhukung, we go up towards the north and follow the valley next to the Lhotse glacier toward the east. We take a brief walk by the river until we reach a large rock, then after climbing for about 40 minutes, we arrive at Island Peak Base Camp. Once we set up our tents there, you’ll receive some quick training on climbing skills like using ice axes, climbing boots, crampons, harnesses, and ropes.
Today is another eventful day. We are submitting Island with the help of our expert guides. Firstly, we climb up to a rocky ridge and then hike to the glacier. Using harnesses, we will ascend the glacier to reach the south ridge. It will be challenging due to the snowy path. Following this path, we reach the top of the summit. From the top, admire the majestic and grand vistas of Lhotse, Makalu, and Baruntse along with other surrounding peaks. After enjoying some unforgettable moments, we hike down to base camp and then make our way to Chhukung.
This day is reserved as a backup in case of unpredictable weather or unexpected circumstances. However, if everything progresses according to plan, we won’t need to use this day and will proceed with our trek as scheduled.
We are descending to Namche. We begin the journey bypassing incredible Tengboche and descend to Pungki Thanka. After this descent, the trail takes you to Kyangjuma and eventually to Namche Bazaar.
Following the trail alongside Dudh Khola, we eventually hike down to Lukla.
We take a flight back to Kathmandu and bid farewell to the mountains until next time.
Today is a free day in Kathmandu. You do not have any planned schedule so you may spend the day exploring unexplored delights of the city.
About 3 hours before your flight, one of our team members will meet you at the hotel to bring you to the airport. With hopes to see you again for another incredible Himalayan adventure, we say our byes and wish you safe travels.
