The Valley of Kathmandu is regarded as “Nepal Proper” and contains the majority of the country’s cultural heritage monuments inside its three main old cities. The city of Kathmandu has Durbar Square, the Pashupatinath Temple, monkey temple , Bouddhanath. We will explore the religious hub for Buddhists and Hindus as well as the historical palaces of Kathmandu and Patan. We begin the tour with Swayambhunath stupa where we explore several monasteries and temples representing different deities. We then visit Kathmandu Durbar Square to explore the ancient palaces and admire the Newari architecture and the temples. Then, we head to Bouddhanath stupa- a sacred site for Buddhist followers. Another destination is Pashupatinath temple- a Hindu sacred site carrying deep meanings and significance, and also beautiful temples.
Today, we will fly to Lukla Airport and then trek to Phakding. The flight is spectacular, taking you to one of the world’s most dangerous airports. The 30-minute flight from Kathmandu Airport is full of suspense as it passes by high, attractive cliffs. Once you landed in Lukla, you will begin your journey to Phakding. On the journey, we will pass through numerous rural and traditional settlements, being constantly accompanied by Kusum Kangraru and other peaks. The walk descends to Phakding village along the Dudh Koshi River trail.
On this day, we will leave Phakding and pass through magnificent rhododendron forests, which are blooming with magnolia and lined with fire trees. During the spring, the region will be blossoming with rhododendron blooms. We will also pass via Jorsale (2,805 meters) and the intersection of Dudh Koshi and Bhote Koshi. We’ll climb for a while and catch our first glimpse of Everest if the weather clears and the clouds part way. Ascending farther, we will arrive at Namche Bazaar, a thriving Sherpa village and the administrative headquarters of the Khumbu region.
We will rest in Namche Bazaar to acclimatise and avoid altitude sickness. It is also recommended that we take a short walk on this day to help our body adjust to the higher elevation. We will trek to the Everest View Hotel at 3,880 meters, which offers spectacular views of Mount Everest, Mount Ama Dablam, and other neighbouring peaks. We’ll then hike back to Namche.
We will leave Namche Bazaar and continue going along the flowing glacial waters of the Dudh Koshi. On our way to Sanasa, we’ll travel past the ethereal rhododendron trees. You may also witness multicoloured pheasants, musk deer, and Himalayan Thar. From Sanasa, we will ascend vertically to the renowned Tengboche Monastery. It is the Khumbu region’s largest monastery, offering breathtaking views of Mt. Everest, Mt. Lhotse, Mt. Nuptse, Mt. Ama Dablam, and The Thamserku.
We’re leaving the Debuche and heading to Dingboche. On the way, we shall pass through Pangboche. Another fascinating feature of Dingboche is the long wall designed to shelter the harvest from the chilly wind from the Imja valley. The breathtaking views of Ama Dablam, Lhotse, Island Peak, and Taboche awaits you.
We will have another acclimatization day in Dingboche on this day. We will also have a short hike to Nangkartsang Peak, often known as Nagerjun Hill. The hill is set just above Dingboche, generally climbed to get accustomed to the high altitude. We will have a pretty demanding day as the path is steeper. It takes around 5 hours to reach the top and get back to Dingboche, where the stunning views of Lobuche East (6,119m), Kangtega (6,685m), Taboche (6,367m), Lobuche West (6,145m), Thamserku (6,608m), and Ama Dablam (6,812m) will mesmerize us. Then, we will return to Dingboche.
We’ll ascend steeply to Lobuche, leaving Dingboche behind and passing a chorten. We will also pass via Dugla, which is located at the tip of the Khumbu Glacier. We will walk to Chukpo Lari after a vertical and short ascent to observe memorials to people who died in the Khumbu region. You cannot ignore the breathtaking view of the massive mountains. We’ll arrive at Lobuche (4,910m) after a pleasant trek.
Today’s journey takes us to the lap of the great Mount Everest, a much-anticipated stop. A mild hike further from Lobuche avoids elevation rise and takes you past the world’s highest glacial mass, the Khumbu Glacier. We will walk for around 2-3 hours from Lobuche to Gorakshep (5,181m/16,994ft), a quiet area with unique lodges. From here, we ascend to the summit, eventually arriving at Everest Base Camp. The Khumbu Icefall and the view of Mt. Khumbutse and Lingtren are stunning. We will return to Gorakshep after spending some time in the base camp, recharged by the vistas and the ground.
We will walk from Gorakshep to Kala Patthar early in the morning to catch the breathtaking sunrise over Mt. Everest. Furthermore, the breathtaking vistas of Changtse, Nuptse, Lhotse, and the others will be irresistible. Kala Patthar will provide you with a gratifying experience that will live in your memory for a lifetime. Then we’ll stroll down to Gorakshep and continue to Pheriche.
On this day, we will walk back to Namche Bazaar, which will take approximately 7 hours. On the route, we will encounter various ups and downs in the terrain, as well as hillsides covered in juniper and rhododendron plants. We will descend to a location where we may observe pheasants, mountains, goats, and other wildlife after crossing the Dudh Koshi River via a bridge. The trail eventually leads to Sanasa, where breathtaking views of the Ama Dablam, Nuptse, and Thamserku mountains await. We will travel to Namche Bazaar via difficult and twisting pathways and wooded places.
We will hike downhill from Namche to the Dudh Koshi River again. Then we will walk to Monjo, where we will complete the paperwork at the Sagarmatha National Park checkpoint. Following that, we’ll walk to Phakding before continuing on to Lukla. You can unwind and recall the wonderful moments of trekking.
We will return from Lukla to Kathmandu on a short and scenic flight. You will transfer to the hotel upon landing at Tribhuwan International Airport.
In the evening, you’ll join the farewell dinner hosted by Hike Holiday Treks, where you’ll receive your achievement certificate in recognition of your trekking journey
Today is a free day, so do whatever you like. Wander the streets of Thamel or take a quick tour of the valley.
One of our airport representatives will be at the airport to welcome you. He will be carrying the Hike Holiday Treks placard with your name underneath. He will take you to your hotel and help you to check in.
The distance between Lukla to the Everest Base Camp is an 80-mile round trip. From Lukla, it takes approximately eight days to reach the Everest Base Camp, including two acclimatization days, and then three days to return.
We run several small group-joining treks with guaranteed departure dates so solo travellers are welcome to join in with a group.
We will still run your trip, even if there are no other travellers on the dates you have booked. We never ask our client to change their travel dates due to an insufficient number of people.
They do accept credit cards or debit cards on the trek; but half heartedly. Also, cards are accepted in some places only; mostly, some shops in Namche Bazaar accept credit cards, but not beyond that. Please note, it is easier if transactions are made using cash, but be warned, they will not take foreign currency; only local currencies are accepted.
The weight limit is 15 kg/33 lbs for the Lukla flight, including both your duffel pack (10kg/22 lbs) and a daypack (5kg/11lbs). If you exceed the weight limit, you will have to pay USD 2-5 for each extra kilo in the air terminal. We therefore suggest you pack as light a bag as possible.
No, you do not have to add one more day to your itinerary. On the day we are due to fly to Lukla, we will wake up at around 3:00 am. We will pack our breakfast and take a private vehicle to Ramechap. The drive is about four hours, so we will reach the airport at around 6:00 or 7:00 am and then take the flight to Lukla.
If you do not want to wake up early, then you have an alternative option of taking a charter helicopter from Kathmandu Airport to Lukla Airport.
Lastly, if you do not want to do either of the options mentioned above, you can choose to drive to Ramechap one day before the flight to Lukla. You can spend the day before in Ramechap and wake up around 5:00 am to catch a flight to Lukla. This can be done on day 2 after finishing the Kathmandu sightseeing tour.
You should expect to get a simple and basic room at Manthali, Ramechap. The area is a popular tourist destination; therefore, no fancy hotels or restaurants have been built in this region. The hotel consists of standard twin rooms, based on two sharing.
Our guides are qualified to handle small, primary medical emergencies as they are first-aid trained. And in the case of an emergency, then they will manage the emergency evacuation in cooperation with the Kathmandu team, so that patients can get medical attention as soon as possible.
You can find western flushing-style toilets as well as squat-down toilets on the Everest trail. However, during the winter season, as you move higher on the trail, we suggest you use the squat-down toilets instead of the sit-down toilets. This is because, as we move higher, it gets colder and water freezes making it difficult to flush the toilet. So we advise you to check if the water is working perfectly before using the toilets.
We cannot say exactly how much spending money you need for the trek, as it will depend on your spending habits. Most of the goods available on the trail is pretty expensive compared to the main city area.
All of our trek packages include three meals per day (breakfast, lunch and dinner) on trekking days, so you will not be spending much on meals. However, trekkers will have to bear the cost of water, beverages, snacks, chocolates, etc. As a rough guide, many of our past trekkers have said NPR 3000-3500 will suffice plentifully each day during trekking days.
Yes, you can fly directly to/from Lukla from Kathmandu. The alternative option is to fly via helicopter. This cost for flying to Lukla from Kathmandu is USD 3000 one-way which can be shared between five people. (The helicopter can carry only five people.) So, it costs USD 600 per person for the Kathmandu to Lukla flight on a helicopter.
Also, it is worth noting that you can transfer the cost of your plane ticket (USD 150) to the cost of your helicopter flight, so that it will cost roughly USD 450 per person, if the charter helicopter carries exactly five people on the flight.
US$ 2550
